Svoboda Trail System
Nelson, British Columbia, Canada
The Svoboda system of trails is located at the northeast end of town in the West Arm Provincial Park. The area consists of mostly all-mountain/downhill trails that cannot be shuttled. Svoboda Road is used to access the network of trails found in this area. The long and switchbacking dirt road takes you up along private land to the park gate, which is closed to traffic, found halfway up the hill. You will have to earn your turns riding this area. If you are an accomplished rider an all-mountain bike (5” to 6” of travel) will do just great. However, a downhill rig may be a little more fun on some of the more advanced trails if you are a little less experienced.
A full face helmet, knee and elbow pads are recommended for those riding this area. Some of the trails, including
Log Jam and
Paper Bag, do have a few short sections of pedaling where you might prefer an open face, but once you start your descents, you’ll be happy that you’ve got the extra protection.
Please avoid riding this area in extremely dry or wet condition as not to damage the trails.
