Moose Mountain

Kananaskis, Alberta, Canada

Located near Bragg Creek and about 45 minutes west of Calgary, Moose Mountain is a mountain biker’s play land. Littered with a large number of downhill and x-country trails ranging in difficulty from beginner to expert, this area has enough riding to keep you busy for a couple of days.

Downhill trails in the area include Technical Trail Features (TTFs) such as wooden structures, drops and gaps. They range from steep and gnarly descents down fall lines to flowy and smooth switchbacks with perfectly bermed corners to test your bike handling prowess. Most downhill trails were originally built by dedicated riders/builders, but development of new trails and maintenance has since come under the stewardship of Moose Mountain Bike Trail Society (MMBTS); a volunteered based organization.

The x-country singletrack trails in the area vary from winding singletrack climbs and descents to fire roads and doubletracks. All the new x-country trails in the area, including Pneuma and Ridgeback, have been built to traverse and flow along the landscape. Ridgeback is looked after by the Calgary Mountain Bike Alliance (CMBA), while Pneuma was built by and is the responsibility of the MMBTS. MMBTS’s mandate is to maintain and grow the existing network of downhill and x-country trails located on Moose Mountain.

If you’re into riding a big bike on trails accessible by a shuttle vehicle or looking to pedal your all-mountain/x-country rig up some winding and technical singletrack, then Moose Mountain is the place for you. With all the area has to offer, you are sure to come back over and over again. Please note the seasonal road closure. Moose Mountain Road is closed annually from December 1 - May 15.

Bridge Connector Trail (BCT) : BCT serves one purpose, to provide access across Canyon Creek during the spring and early summer when water levels in the creek run high. The trail runs from Billy Dog to the end of SHAFT/T-Dub, providing Moose Mountain’s west side trails access to a manmade wooden bridge crossing Canyon Creek. The bridge is located where T-Dub finishes. A BIG thank you to the MMBTS and volunteers who built the bridge. Use BCT when water levels are high and crossing the creek may be too dangerous.
