Peter Oprsal (Whistler): Creator of bikepirate.com

Peter now resides in Whistler and is a past resident of Canmore, Alberta, where he created bikepirate.com several years ago. He is an avid mountain biker, enjoying all disciplines the sport has to offer. Through the creation of bikepirate.com, Peter hopes to attract more people to the sport of mountain biking; by providing mountain bike enthusiasts with accurate and detailed trail information on sanctioned places to ride.

Lars Goeller (Vancouver): Regional Rep for Vancouver area

Twelve years ago Lars Goeller joined his brother on a bike trip from his hometown of Toronto, ON all the way to Vancouver BC. Before this he'd ridden xc in the Toronto/Hamilton area and occassionally competed in the Chico racing series with his friends for a bit of fun. He'd never heard of the North Shore, and thought suspension was for sissies. A year after arriving in Vancouver he'd ditched his GT Zaskar for a Santa Cruz Bullit and 12 years later he's still here riding the trails.

Peter Mentz (Golden): Regional Rep for Golden area

I moved to Golden just over four years ago with my wife for a lifestyle upgrade from Lloydminster, AB/SK, what an upgrade! I have had the passion for biking since my training wheels came off. Growing up in Edmonton I rode all the trails on my 12 speed Supercycle; times sure have changed! Golden is a great fit for me, it is a unique biking community as we have great access to Cross Country, All Mountain, and Downhill trails. We are also fortunate to have lift access and shuttle access downhilling nearby. Come and check the trails out for yourself or drop me a line and I’ll show you my favourites.

Alistair Jones (Canmore): Regional Rep for Bow Valley area

Alistair lives and shreds the Bow Valley basing himself out of Canmore. Trail riding since his dad gave him a rigid Bianchi with cantilever brakes for his 12th birthday he's always looking for the next great singletrack. Since moving to Canmore four years ago there has been a constant stream of adventures on the trail bike and downhill rig across Alberta and BC. Always happy to show somebody a favourite loop or take on a big epic it's likely you will run into him on the trails or a local race.

Doug Topp (Banff): Guest blogger

Doug Topp is the President of the Bow Valley Mountain Bike Alliance (BVMBA). Doug enjoys every minute he gets out on his bike and embraces the opportunity to travel with his bike to new and exciting trail destinations.

Corrine Harris (Whistler): Guest blogger

Corrine, better known as Cor, is a long time Bow Valley resident who grew up in Banff and now resides in Whistler. A lover of the outdoors and an accomplished downhill skier, she discovered the exhilarating sport of mountain biking in 2010. Quickly falling for this activity, Cor now enjoys both x-country and downhill riding.

Charlene Belanger (Calgary): Guest blogger

Char has been getting out and playing in the mountains for over 20 years after having an epiphany that “Wow, the mountains are really amazing!” while in Austria on a Sound of Music tour. She is passionate about riding, climbing, skiing, paddling, hiking, camping, backpacking and doing pretty much anything else she can to explore and play in the mountains. Since having her daughter and son, Char has been learning to see and explore the mountains in a new way and with a new perspective. She also loves to meet other parents who are “getting out there” and is looking forward to the day when she is relegated to eating the dust off her kids’ back tires (but not yet kiddo!).

Dave Williams (Banff): Guest blogger/mechanic

I'm not at all a racer and I don't play one on TV; but, I do have fun hanging out with them and helping them achieve their goals (and mocking them along the way). Goal’s which may include winning, or just finishing. I've helped out numerous teams over the years with bike race support; including the 24 hours of Adrenaline and the TransRockies, plus adventure races like Sea to Summit, Full Moon and Raid the North.

As a bike mechanic during the summer, a general gear geek, and rental shop operator, I have a very good idea of what mechanical support you’ll need during a race. Let me worry about where the bike lights are, where that chicken bacon burger is, and where the sunscreen got too, while you concentrate on your race.
