Trail information: A must do loop at Makara is the Grand Loop (1-2 hours): Koru to Sally Alley to Missing Link to Aratihi (Up) descending down Ridgline to Ridge Extension to SWIGG to Starfish (all the way back down to carpark). This loop provides some really awesome views with super sweet singletrack all the way up to Makara Peak, from there you have loads of options to descend back down to the bottom. Follow the suggested trails to complete the Grand Loop.

Agree it’s a great park and the grand loop is excellent but if you’re taking 2 – 3 hours to do it you would suggest that you will prefer to take the Northface/JFK/Smoke/ then Ridgeline extension and Swigg Starfish down. A very good rider would do the standard grand loop in sub 1 hour.

Thanks for the feedback Mal. I’ve made the correction on the time it takes to do the loop, from 2-3 hrs to 1-2 hrs. Thanks for catching this, as I agree, 3 hrs is a little excessive for this route.

      Cheers!
