Sulphur Springs Loop
Moose Mountain, Kananaskis, Alberta, Canada
Sulphur Springs Loop combines the well-known Sulphur Springs singletrack with
Elbow Valley Trail to form a challenging technical ride one can do after work. A popular trail among mountain bikers and hikers, the loop may be ridden either direction. I prefer riding it counter clockwise starting up Sulphur Springs. If you want a challenge, ride the loop in reverse to find it flows completely different.
To begin this loop start at the Station Flats parking lot and look for the Elbow Valley trail located at the west-end of the parking lot. Ride along the Elbow Valley trail for about 1 km before turning up the well-marked Sulphur Springs trail. The trail will begin to ascend for the next 4 kilometres, winding its way through the forest up the tight double track trail; the trail eventually narrows about halfway up becoming a full on singletrack ride. Once you’ve completed the grunt up, you’ll be rewarded with some great views of the surrounding mountains and valley below. Now comes the fun part, you’ll barrel down (watch out for hikers) the fun and flowy singletrack descent taking you to Elbow Valley Trail. From there ride east (left) along the mostly singletrack Elbow Valley back to the Station Flats carpark. The climbing is not over, as you’ll be greeted with one very long grunt up Elbow Valley, before the trail starts to mellow out and descends back down to Station Flats.
