Sundance Trail

Banff, Alberta, Canada

The Sundance Trail is a great ride for families with kids and bike trailers if you want to explore the area near the Banff town site. An out-and-back trail with little elevation gain and fabulous scenery, the trail ends at the Sundance Canyon picnic area. From there you can explore the lovely creekside hiking trail taking you up and into the canyon.

The trail is doubletrack and mostly paved all the way to the picnic area. A popular trail with hikers, the trail does get a lot of use in the summer time.

Please note the official trailhead is currently closed at the Cave and Basin Historic Site due to ongoing renovations. To access the trail, please take the horse track along the Bow River, as indicated on the Google Map, to the connecting Sundance Trail.

Options

The Sundance trail may be combined with Healy Creek, also an out and back trail. Healy Creek ends at Sunshine Road, near the Trans Canada Hwy 1. You can ride Hwy 1 for a short period to connect to the Banff Legacy Trail near the 1A and return via Banff Legacy. Please be extremely cautious when traveling back along Hwy 1 – Trans Canada – as it is a very busy highway; especially in the summer months.
