Craters of the Moon: Taupo, New Zealand

A popular area with local riders, the park has around 50 km of x-country singletrack trails and is located only 10 minutes from Taupo town centre. All trails are well marked, with a majority being intermediate to advanced. There are only two expert trails, one of them being a jump track (The Buddha).

Trail Location

Trailhead: Take State Highway 1 North from Taupo and turn off on Karapiti Road, about five minutes from Town. Drive down Karapiti Road, past the Horse Hire on your right and turn left into the car park.

Alternatively, you can take Rotary Ride or the Redwoods MTB trail to Wairakei from the edge of town.
