Angry Midget is a popular technical singletrack descent. Located in the Garibaldi area of Squamish, Angry Midget, also referred to as AM, doesn’t seem to ever get old no matter how many times you ride it. It’s an advanced trail with several rolling humps that can be aired. There are some great root drops, rocks and rolls to descend down, making this trail a challenge to ride. Rated advanced, this trail is considered a soft black by some since the rerouting of the washed out and eroded mid-section of trail. The mid-section may still be ridden, but adds to the technical difficulty. AM is found about 500 m east of the entrance to Half Nelson, a hugely popular flow trail. Although AM is much more technical than its neighbour Half Nelson, it does have a certain amount of flow in its own right. For those looking for a break from the bermy and buff Half and Full Nelson trails, jump on AM, you will not be disappointed if you do. The best bike to ride this trail on is an all-mountain, a big rig may be overkill.

AM may be accessed via the Legacy Trail climb or via the North Creek FSR, the same road used to access Half Nelson. The trailhead is well marked and easy to spot. AM begins with a few steep rolling bumps, followed by tight corners onto a wooden ladder built up over a decaying stump. The remainder of the trail continues down some steep chutes and root drops, with an alternative switchbacking line choice. There is a large bridge to roll, crossing Half Nelson about 3/4 of the way down the trail. After that the trails gets a bit more flowy down to the two part ending. Heading left near the end of the trail takes you to a two foot drop exit, while keeping right, the more obvious line, shoots you down a steeper chute onto a wooden bridge crossing the trench. Both exits spit you out onto the Ring Creek North FSR. Turn left and descend back to your car.

The most direct and the quickest way to access AM is to park at the second parking area on Garibaldi Park Road located at the bottom of Half Nelson. From there ride up the Ring Creek North FSR, following the signage for Half Nelson; keep right at first fork. Once at the TH for Half Nelson, keep climbing left at the fork, past Half Nelson, for another 580 m to access the well-marked TH for AM.

The other option is to climb up the Legacy Trail all the way to the end. Turn left on the doubletrack and ride 80 m to the TH for AM.
