Appleton Canyon is fun technically challenging and exciting trail. Rated advanced, the tight and narrow singletrack with its rooty and rocky terrain will challenge most experienced riders. The trail may be ridden in either direction, but flows better north to south. Appleton Canyon is actually a section of the Sun Coast Trail. Therefore, please be mindful of hikers/walkers when navigation this sweet “old school” route. There are several waterfalls along this trail, with ample opportunity to stop and take in the incredible scenery. What makes Appleton Canyon trail doubly challenging, adding to the technical nature of this route, is the proximity of the trees to the trail which creates a challenge for bikes with wide bars. Not only do you have to manage the undulating technical terrain, but now you also have to worry about fitting your bars through the tight trees along the twisty and winding route. We have a trail in Whistler called Cut Yer Bars. Properly named because of the how tight the trees are, which often snag your bars on the descents. However, the Appleton Canyon Trail makes Cut Yer Bars look like a four lane highway. If you have the skill and experience to ride this trail, you will be rewarded with views, fun ups and downs, all while basking in the knowledge of having successfully completed this ride.
