An intermediate singletrack ride which provides a fantastic loop option when combined with Section 102 or serves as a connector from the No Flow Zone to Sixteen Mile Creek FSR. Azrael may be ridden in either direction, although it flows best north to south. It consists of narrow singletrack riding along rocks, roots and trail. Ride Azrael out from the north end of Shit Happens to connect with Section 102, avoiding the tough technical climb up Section 102. Doing so brings you to my favourite part of Section 102, the descent down towards Sixteen Mile Creek FSR. From there you can keep riding by descending down to Hwy 99 and taking a left onto the highway and riding north to access Kill Me Thrill Me. Or consider doing a short loop in the area by combining Azrael with the descent down Section 102. Climb Sixteen Mile Creek FSR to Azrael and ride Azrael to Section 102, taking a left onto Section 102 to descend back down to the FSR. This is a fun loop option worth doing if you’re short on time.

When riding Azrael from one end to the other, please note that a short section of the trail runs along Section 102 for about 50 m, while another section meets up with the ending to Gargamel, before peeling away from the trail. This may confuse riders new to riding Azrael as there are spurs in the trail during these intersections. When riding south, keep right at the intersection with Section 102, right again to exit off of 102 and left to ride below the exit to Gargamel. At the last intersection, keep right before meeting up with Shit Happens.

TRAILHEAD | N50 10.387 W122 55.720 (NORTH)

The north access for Azrael is found 1.3 km up the Sixteen Mile Creek FSR (Cougar Mtn. Rd.). Look for it on the south (left) side of the FSR next to a large pull-off.

The south access for Azrael is found on the north end of Shit Happens, around 1 km up from Emerald Place road. When climbing up the north end of Shit Happens, look for Azrael to head right, just past the huge down tree which has been rock armoured to ride over.
