Are you crazy about mountain biking and all things bikes? Or hanging out in the sun people watching, drinking a nice refreshing beverage while sitting on a patio, and maybe taking in a free concert? All this and more is possible while the BIGGEST mountain bike event of the summer unfolds in front of you. Crankworx is THE event to watch, attend or participate in during the summer months. It is held every year in the incredible mountain surroundings and atmosphere that is Whistler. Already known world over for its skiing in the winter and the incredible Bike Park and Valley riding in the summer, Whistler is the venue for Crankworx; the mountain bike festival of the year. The whole village is a buzz for one full week with many of your favourite pro riders seen mulling about. The atmosphere is electric and contagious. People riding bikes are everywhere. A demo centre is set-up for those wanting to try out a new ride from the industry’s top brands; including Devinci, Giant, Trek and Norco. Free swag is given away all week and the village is littered with vendors from your favourite bike brands showing off their gear. Oh and did I mention the free live music, wicked atmosphere, beer gardens and sun.
If you’ve never been to Crankworx, I would highly recommend checking this event out next year. But reserve your hotel early, with over 25,000 people attending the Joyride event alone, Whistler can fill up quick. And if you arrive for the last weekend of festivities, check out the cheese rolling competition; always a good time. Watch contestants chase a cheese roll down the hill for a chance to win two season passes for Whistler/Blackcomb. Very entertaining and you’re sure to see some carnage.
Enjoy our photo recap of this weekend’s events at Crankworx. And a BIG CONGRATULATIONS to our Canadian rider, Steve Smith, for pulling off a hattrick this week with a win in the Garbanzo DH, Air DH and Canadian Open, making us Canadians super proud!
