Brake-Away is an intermediate singletrack trail that provides a link between the northern section of K2 and Lumpy’s Epic, found in the One Mile Lake Area. Access to Brake-Away is via K2, Newsflash (climb) or Lumpy’s. The trail flows best west to east (K2 to Lumpy’s), but may be ridden in either direction. Brake-Away is a fun trail, with a short climb, traverse and descent down to the final section of Lumpy’s. Now with the addition of Newsflash some riders prefer to use Brake-Away to gain access to the northern section of K2, climbing Newsflash to Brake-Away and turning right (west) on Brake-Away to access K2.

When ridden east from K2, Brake-Away begins with a short spurt up a steep little climb and from there continues to traverse along the undulating terrain over boulders and rock slabs. The trail is all singletrack and will take the rider through a mostly wooded area, offering up very little views. Less than halfway along the trail, you’ll come to a junction for Newsflash. Continue right (east) at the junction to stick with Brake-Away. The last section of Brake-Away will descend down a technical route towards Lumpy’s Epic. Once on Lumpy’s, turn left (north) to continue back down to the Horse Trail which you will follow left (west) back to Town or to One Mile Lake parking area.

Access to Brake-Away is via K2, Newsflash or Lumpy’s. To access Brake-Away when riding K2, look for the well-defined fork marked with a large boulder found about 1.1 km down the K2 trail. Turn right at the fork, instead of heading straight down Pioneer (short section of trail along K2). The trailhead for Brake-Away is marked and found about 90 m from the fork.
