The Bow Valley Mountain Bike Alliance (BVMBA) has been hard at work since the first spring like weather that began in mid-March. To fill you in on the happenings and to get you as excited as I am about the season ahead, I’ve asked Doug Topp, BVMBA President and bikepirate guest blogger, to provide the following report on the new trail planned to open this fall.

Are you looking to get rid of an old bike you’re no longer riding, all while doing a great deed for a child in need? As we approach the holidays and the spirit of giving overcomes us, why not do something good and help get more kids on bikes. I’ve had a number of bikepirate followers email me asking about the status of the new trail being constructed in Banff. Originally dubbed “Black Star,” partially because it is located above Star Wars, this new singletrack trail is well underway. The BVMBA has been working hard over the last few months to scrub and mold the new technical singletrack that will wind its way down to the start of Return of the Jedi or option out on the Hoodoos trail.

Getting down and dirty with your partner on two wheels

You like to ride your mountain bike. No, you LOVE to ride your mountain bike and now your partner is feeling the itch to ride as much as you. Maybe it’s all the bike videos you have subdued her into watching, or bike rides you’ve taken her out on, or maybe, just maybe, she just LOVES to mountain bike as much as you do for all that the sport has to offer. Now only if she could ride a little faster, maybe go a little bigger or attack the technical sections with a little more finesse.
