Managed by the Hawke’s Bay MTB Club, one of the largest in the country with over 1800 members, the Pan Pac Eskdale Mountain Bike Park boasts more than 60 named trails for you to explore. This is also the home to three New Zealand pro downhill riders; including the 2009 World Junior DH Champ, Brook Macdonald. Eskdale is a great place for x-country and downhill riding, no matter what your riding ability.

Just a short 10 minute drive north of Napier on the East Coast of the North Island, is where you’ll find the Pan Pac Eskdale Mountain Bike Park. The facility is broken down into 5 blocks: Waipunga (370ha); Tait (300ha); Replanted (210ha); Mill (440ha); Pakuratahi Valley (850ha). Up until early 2012, access was only allowed within the Waipunga, Tait and Replanted blocks (total 880ha), where just over 80km of purpose-built trails, plus 25km of forestry roads are located, suitable for all levels of rider abilities, including freeride, downhill, trials and x-Country trails. But as the Waipunga and Tait blocks will be harvested in 2016 / 2017, Pan Pac Forests have granted the HBMTBC access into the Mill block for x-country riding and Pakuratahi Valley for downhill riding to develop a replacement riding area.

The Mill Block, is OPEN to ride/run (HBMTBC members only & visitors with valid MTB Visitor Permits). So far there is approximately 19.5 km of trails built, in addition to 17 km of good quality forestry roads. Access this area from Ken Ross Reserve carpark at northern end of the Pan Pac Mill on SH2.

A permit is required to ride the trails here. MTB visitor permit cost is $10 per person (includes the latest trail map) and are available from any local bike shop; I-Site or the Bayview 4 Square. To purchase an online permit or full membership visit hawkesbaymtb.co.nz. Visitor permits are valid for 3 weeks from date of purchase.
