Galactic Scheisse has received some recent love and is now fully rideable. The short hike-a-bike sections are no more, now that new bridges have been put in place to cross several creek beds found along this trail’s route. Look for Galactic Scheisse to start up and to your right on historic logging roadbed as you approach Upper PowerSmart. It is very well signed and heads right at the spur with the entrance to Upper PowerSmart.

The trail begins with a steep sustained climb on very loose surfaces along a narrow singletrack. The grade lessens eventually and begins to roll up and down before approaching the first creek crossing. No more hike-a-bike required, now you can ride across the nice and wide wooden bridge. Continue on mellow terrain as you start to descend down to the second creek crossing – a very scenic section of trail. Climb steeply up from the creek and as the trail starts to turn to the north it becomes a narrow doubletrack descent. From here you will continue to gradually descend, before picking up speed as the grade of the trail increases and things get a little faster. Galactic Scheisse was whittled into historic logging road but, it’s fast and fun. There are a couple of interesting vistas along the trail offering up some incredible views of the mountains and in the distance the Garibaldi Highlands subdivision can be seen on a clear day.

Though there are no overly technical features on the trail, speed can make things tricky. Be careful as you pop out of the trees onto exposed ledges that drop away from you to the left. Stay in control and within your comfort zone when descending this long route down.

Galactic Scheisse spits out onto the Northside Connector FSR just south of the bridge over Mashiter Creek. Ride north to continue on to an epic loop with Alice Lake and Garibaldi Highlands area trails or ride south on Northside Connector to find Lower Powersmart, Plum Smugglers and/or Word of Mouth. There are plenty of ways to extend your loop into one epic x-country ride.

A seasonal trail, to be sure. Galactic’s higher elevation means that you may come across snow on the trail often into the early summer. This ride would be best enjoyed late in the summer.

Look for Galactic Scheisse to start up and to your right on historic logging roadbed as you approach Upper PowerSmart. It is very well signed and heads right at the spur with the entrance to Upper PowerSmart.

Drive or ride up the Garibaldi Park Road from Quest University. Once you near the first switchback near the homes on Garibaldi Park Road, continue left. Ride/drive for another 3.9 km until you approach a second switchback and carpark/pull-out on your right. If driving, park here (make sure you have a retrieval vehicle set-up if you’re leaving your car). From the corner of the switchback take the historic logging roadbed that heads north into the woods, riding past the entrance to P-Nut’s and Grin and Holler along the way. Ride for 900 m until you arrive at the well signed trailhead for Galactic Scheisse.
