Gravatron, also spelled Gravitron by some (trail sign is Gravatron), is an old school downhill trail that is fully accessible by shuttle. It is located in the Mackenzie Area and not for the inexperienced rider. This is a full-on, fall line (straight down) type of descent that will have you assuming the “death grip” position for several sections of trail. It begins easy enough with a few Technical Trail Features (TTFs) before it really gets gnarly dropping down a steep and jagged rock face at the junction of Gravatron and Gravatrout. If you’re having trouble dropping in at this junction, consider opting out for Gravatrout instead to get down the mountain. Gravatrout is an advanced to expert run that switchbacks across two sections of Gravatron, making it a bit more manageable than the latter.
Gravatron is an expert run with extremely steep and loose sections of trail that seem to go on forever. A downhill bike, full armour and balls of steel are recommended. For how long this trail takes to access, whether shuttling or pedaling up to it, it’s a real quick descent; blink and it’ll be over before you know it. The high speed technical down is sure to get your adrenaline pumping all the way to the finish. Once you spit out on the access road, turn right and ride 100 m over a couple of water bars to connect up with Overnight Sensation. The other option to continue descending is to turn left to access Rusty Trombone. Both options are advanced runs leading back down towards the gravel pit and both are worthy of your time. Read the individual trail descriptions to decide which one is for you.
Gravatron is not for everyone. However, for those of you that love extremely steep fall line descents on loose dirt and rock, Gravatron is worth checking out.

Access to Gravatron is via the Mackenzie FSR or by riding Middle Earth; which spits out onto the Mackenzie FSR from where you will head right all the way to the cell tower. From the gravel pit located at the end of Pemberton Farm Road E., drive north along the Mackenzie FSR. At the very first fork stay right, second fork head left, third fork stay left, fourth fork near the lower launch site stay right and finally keep right (straight ahead) on the last fork making your way to the cell tower. Park and look for a faint trail leading into the trees just south of the cell tower. This is Gravatron, it’s not marked but begins with a few TTFs about 10 m down the trail.

Shuttling in the area is done on the Mackenzie FSR road, which is an old decommissioned road that has seen much better days. Sedan’s will be very hard pressed to make it up the road; I personally wouldn’t attempt it as you might find pieces of it torn off by the time you reach the top. Best to shuttle this area with a large truck or SUV with exceptional clearance.
