Newsflash officially opened in 2013 and serves as a great up track (climb) to Brake-Away. Rated intermediate, Newsflash will challenge even the more experienced rider with its tight switchbacks and short steep ups. The tight and narrow singletrack climbs extremely well and is a great addition to the network of trails located in the One Mile Lake Area. One hundred percent singletrack, Newsflash consists of a large number of switchbacks that make their way up to the middle of Brake-Away. Nearing the top of the trail, the rider will be treated to a lush section of forest consisting of rocks fully covered in glowing moss. It is here that the trail mellows out, just before it reaches the Brake-Away trail that runs perpendicular to it. From here continue left or right along Brake-Away, depending on your desired route.

One can use Newsflash to create a loop, combining Brake-Away and Lumpy’s or Brake-Away and K2. My preferred option is to combine Newsflash with Brake-Away and Lumpy’s to form a 6.7 km loop which will take most riders about 1.5 hours to complete.

To access Newsflash, ride the Sea to Sky Trail from the One Mile Lake Area parking lot towards Overhill. Turn left onto Overhill and climb up to the well-marked trailhead for K2/Overhill Connector. Take the K2/Overhill Connector all the way to Newsflash.
