Old Age and Treachery is a figure eight trail that can be ridden in both directions. The trailhead is located to your right, when pedaling the double track from CBT, and rolls gently downhill until you’re rewarded with great views of the mountains and the ravine below. Follow the trail to your left into the forest where it snakes along the edge of the ravine (the treachery part) and becomes somewhat technical along the ravine edge, followed by a couple of tight switchbacks. If you’re uncomfortable with the exposed steep slope/drop to your right, it’s best to walk your bike until you have descended the tight switchbacks. A climb follows which takes you up to a four-way intersection, proceed straight from here. You’ll enjoy the mixture of mellow ups and downs with a few small technical sections that follow. You’ll come across another four-way (recognize it?), continue straight through until you hit the double track. Turn left from here to endure a short steep climb back to the beginning/trailhead.

Please use caution on the wood features when wet!

Access only via CBT Mainline trail from trailhead at ski hill bridge (~6.5km) or Moonraker trailhead at Cedar Lake (~2.0km).

Via CBT the access to Old Age and Treachery is a hard left off of the CBT Mainline at the 6.0km mark (beaver pond). Pedal down the double track until the signed trail on your right (~500m).

Trail options

Ride these trails as an additional loop off of CBT Mainline on your way to or from the Moonrakers or as a nice 18 km out and back from town. A nice variation is to take a left the second time you approach the four-way and head back to the beginning via Treachery. The ULTIMATE experience is for you and three friends to start at the four-way intersection and each head off in separate directions to complete the entire figure eight.
