Rock and Roll, located in the Mosquito Lake Area, was originally built as a descending trail from Econoline providing access to SlingShot and Strawberry Fields. However, most locals now ride it as a part of a climbing route (Sphincter Rock> Scruffy’s> Rock and Roll> Econoline) to access Econoline. Once on Econoline, there are plenty of route options to choose from and several amazing trails to descend; including Cream Puff, Grumpy Grouse and Freak Boy. In the last few years, the trail ferries have reworked a short section along Rock and Roll, adding an important switchback to make the trail fully climbable. The switchback heads left when climbing up the trail and takes you out and back around onto the trail, avoiding the short steep and loose descent not meant to be climbed. Since the trail is now ridden in either direction, watch out for oncoming traffic and yield to riders ascending the trail.

Rock and Roll is an intermediate singletrack that flows well when descended and can easily be climbed. The only crux of the trail is the short section of rocks and boulders found near the Strawberry Fields junction. It’s a tricky and technical hard up and a “thread the needle” move when descended. The rest of the trail climbs well and is a great connector over to Econoline. Descending the trail is quick and fun, making this a good option for those looking for an intermediate route down to Mosquito Lake. Combine Rock and Roll with SlingShot or Strawberry Fields to end on Mosquito Lake Road.

The east access is found off of Econoline, about halfway along the trail. The west access is at the east end of Scruffy’s Bypass and the Strawberry Fields junction. Continue on up the technical Rock and Roll climb, instead of turning north or south onto Strawberry Fields.
