Trial and Error is an “old school” all-mountain technically demanding ride located in the No Flow Zone. The trail is best ridden from north to south and accessed via the northeast end of Shit Happens. There are plenty of short abrupt climbs followed by challenging downs. The cruxes on this trail are two, one extremely long, steep and gnarly slab roll, and the other a 6′ rock drop; both are not mandatory and have claimed many a riders. If you’re not comfortable riding these, there is no shame in taking the option around. There are a few technical trail features (TTFs) along this route, most of which were built for the trials focused rider in mind. Today only a few of these TTFs are actually rideable, while the rest lay decaying off to the side of the trail. From the start of the trail to the finish you’ll be challenged with the extremely rocky and rooty terrain. It’s almost impossible to find your flow on this trail, no matter how many times you ride it. I’m my opinion it’s probably the most technically demanding trail in the area, and that says a lot if you’ve ridden any of the other trails here. It is after all dubbed the No Flow Zone for a reason.

The most direct access to Trial and Error is from Emerald Estates, via Shit Happens. Take Hwy 99 to Autumn Drive. Ride up Autumn Drive all the way to Emerald Drive (T-Junction). Take a right onto Emerald Drive and follow it around for 200 m to the gravel road on the left with a yellow gate. Take the gravel path past the yellow gate and up for about 600 m to the T-junction. Shit Happens heads left along the well-used rocky route. Take Shit Happens and ride for about 480 m from this point to the TH for Trial and Error, located on the south side of Shit Happens. The TH is not obvious, look for a faint and narrow singeltrack trail to head left between several trees.
